  2. I have uploaded a new version of Linux-specific patches for shadow-3.3.1
  3. into the Incoming directory of sunsite.unc.edu.
  4.  
  5. File name:    shadow-3.3.1-2.dif

  7. I have put together patches from the following people:

  11. Partial list of the enhancements and bug fixes:
  12. - add new variable LOGIN_STRING to /etc/login.defs which
  13.   allows administrator control "Password :" string.
  14. - removed the problem when login trashing TERM= variable on
  15.   normal login even when -p is *not* defined.
  16. - The shadow library is also installed.
  17. - The "lastlog" file now also updates the hostname of the last login.
  18. - "su" makes better syslog-messages.
  19. - "lastlog" now works.

  21. To install this package do a "make". If everything compiles, do a
  22. "make install" as root. Do not forget to update your "/etc/login.defs"!
  23. Otherwise, your "login" won't work!!!

  25. More detailed: You have to fetch the original source code of the
  26. shadow 3.3.1 package. (It is on sunsite, "shadow-3.3.1.tar.gz")
  27. Unpack that source package with "tar xzf shadow-3.3.1.tar.gz" and go into
  28. the source directory ("cd shadow-3.3.1"). Then you have to apply the Linux
  29. patches with "patch -s -p0 < shadow-3.3.1-2.dif". Then "make; make install".
